Big differences in the incidence and severity of peptic ulcer in various parts of India have been reported by several workers (Somervell and Orr, 1936 ; Dogra, 1940 ; Hadley, 1959 Malhotra, 1964 ; Malhotra et al., 1964). Dogra found there were thirteen times as many cases among the population of Madras as compared with the Punjab.
